And we heard this voice which came from heaven
when we were with Him on the Holy Mount.

The mission of Mount Tabor Baptist Church is to bring persons into a saving grace and  redemptive relationship with God as disciples of Jesus Christ.  We are a spiritual Body whose only foundation is the Word of God.  We fulfill our ministry as we proclaim and teach, pray and worship, and forgive and reconcile.  We seek only to be God's servants as we live by Christ's example.
Our
Mission
In August of 1972, the late Mrs. Edith M. Bell, a spirited missionary with a dream of establishing a "little mission" for the Lord, told many devoted saints of her dreams as she stood in the parking lot of her former church.  Others she called daily to help in accomplishing her mission.  Preliminary plans were make to organize a church on September 2, 1972 in the home of Deacon and Mrs. James L. Spain.   On September 9, 1972 the group met in the home of the late Mrs. Laura Smith to continue their organizational plan.  At this meeting the group sent a letter extending a call to the Reverend Henry Floyd Johnson to become the first Pastor.  Reverend Johnson submitted the name Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.  The name Mount Tabor is found in the Old Testament in Judges 4:12, and 4:14.

On Saturday, September 31, 1972, more than fifty persons met at the local YMCA.  At this meeting the church was formally organized and it was voted that the group would worship on the following Sunday.  When the meeting was adjourned, more than thirty people walked from the local YMCA to 110 W. Rittenhouse Street - the location where the Mount Tabor Baptist Church  is currently located.  On this Sunday, one hundred sixty-seven persons became members of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

In November 1972, the church was chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and received the corporate seal.  The church was formally recognized and set apart by the Pennsylvania Baptist Association on December 13, 1972.  On February 25, 1973.  Reverend Henry Floyd Johnson was installed as the pastor of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

On September 17, 2002, the Lord Called Reverend Henry Floyd Johnson home.

Deacon John L. Bivins Sr. assumed responsibility of the church leadership after the death of Reverend Johnson.  A church meeting was convened on Saturday, May 2, 2003 for the purpose of nominating individuals to serve of the Pastoral Search Committee.  Reverend Joseph Fuller of the New Joy Missionary Baptist Church served as the church’s facilitator during the process.  The congregation appointed a search committee.  A Chair and Co-Chair were elected.

After interviewing many applicants it became clear to the congregation that the Lord had called the Reverend Melvin McAllister.  On Saturday, March 19, 2005, the membership voted unanimously to  have the Reverend Melvin McAllister serve as Pastor of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.  Reverend McAllister accepted the call.  He preached his first sermon on Resurrection Sunday,  March 27, 2005.  He was installed as the second Pastor of Mount Tabor Baptist Church on July 10, 2005.

Over the last thirty-eight years, Mount Tabor Baptist Church has continued to develop its priceless legacy.  She is moving with a strong will and determination to provide a haven for the lost and downtrodden.  The Lord is upon Mount Tabor.  He has anointed her to preach to gospel to the meek; to bind up the broken hearted; to proclaim liberty to the captives; to open the prison to those who are bound; to comfort those who mourn; and to feed those in need (Isaiah 61:1-5).  Surely, she must have been founded upon a rock.
